A daughter devastated, a mother with no answers

April 17th, 2008 · No Comments

A Letter in Malaysiakini.

I am a teacher by profession. I am teaching in a government school. Being a teacher, I am expected to inculcate moral values in my teachings. I have memorised all the sixteen values ‘Nilai-nilai Murni’ as a result of twenty-five years of teaching – values that transcend curriculum. Day in day out, all the students are exposed to all the values which are expected to cultivate good thinking and moral values among our young citizens. Examples of some of the moral values are being kind-hearted, respecting each other, fairness, honesty, and moderation.

In the recent SPM examination, many of my students did very well, some scoring straight As. We, teachers of all races, felt so very proud seeing the achievements of our students. We had ‘Hari Anugerah Cemerlang’ in my school. Parents, regardless of race or religion were there to lend support for the programme and at the same time to motivate the children. One such student is my own daughter, who scored 12 As, best student of the school. She used to wake as early as 4 o’clock in the morning to start preparing for her SPM.

When I asked her why she has to take up 12 subjects and ‘torture ‘ herself, she told me, ‘I am not a bumiputera like many of my friends.’ So the need to take up two extra subjects (not offered in her school) in order to be on par with her Malay friends.

She applied for the Progran Matrikulasi well before SPM itself. Yesterday was the day she was eagerly waiting since obtaining her SPM results because all the applicants will get their reply from the matriculation office. While I was in school, my handphone rang. It was a call from my daughter. When I answered the call she was already sobbing, and I am so silly to think that it was tears of joy.

The sobs turn to cries after she heard my voice - she was devastated, depressed and very disappointed because she failed to get entry into this government-sponsored programme. She is the eldest in my family. I have another three school going children. May be I am to be blamed because it was me who asked her to study hard, get good results because being an ordinary teacher I can not afford to send her to private colleges.

When I came back after school yesterday afternoon, again I saw tears in her eyes. She asked several questions. ‘Is it wrong to get 12 As in SPM? My Malay friends who got 2As and 3 As got to do the matriculation programme, I am denied. What’s wrong? You are also a teacher just like uncle, (my Malay college in school) his son was offered a place although he scored only 5As. Why?’ I don’t have answers.

Being a teacher (I teach History and Moral Education), I teach my students to be loyal to the country, to respect the leaders, to obey the laws of the nation, to promote goodwill and so on. I encourage them to participate in ‘Rimup’ (a race integration programme among students of various races).

I do not know what to say to my daughter. I feel guilty because what I teach in school is actually rubbish, perhaps I need to tell them the reality being a non-Malay citizen of our beloved nation. For that I need to resign. Please Mr. Prime Minister, may be you have something to tell us.

Madhavan Says : Too bad, being a teacher doesn’t mean you learn fast. Maybe you’re just hiding inside a cave and didn’t realize what is happening in malaysia. This is the exact reason why many MALAYSIANS are upset with our racial based government. Sorry to say, there is NOTHING that can be done to solve your problem. Maybe you can try to plea to some politicians and get your daughter into the program under recommendation. Or try for university admission ditching the matriculation program. Or maybe send your daughter to Overseas and be very proud of it like UNCLE SAMY VELU (maybe you can afford after seeling all your properties).

Inferno Warriors

April 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

They are always there. wether saving a cat stuck in tree, clearing bee hive from your house, rescueing drowning people, jumping into a blazing ten storey building to save a kid, they have always been there.

but unfortunately, these people get the least credit among all the other service. the fire seems to make the front page but the men who risked their life dont even get the last page.

be it day or night, they stay alert for our safety. Many got hurt and some even gave their lifes to protect ours.

being a concerned citizen, and a caring human being, i wish to sincerely thank each and every one of the firefighters out there in the world. You guys are my hero, even better than Superma. Long Live the Firefighters.

International Firefighters Day - 4th May

International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD) is a time where the world’s community can recognise and honour the sacrifices that firefighters make to ensure that their communities and environment are as safe as possible. It is also a day in which current and past firefighters can be thanked for their contributions.

International Firefighters’ Day is observed each year on 4th May. On this date you are invited to remember the past firefighters who have died while serving our community or dedicated their lives to protecting the safety of us all. At the same time, we can show our support and appreciation to the firefighters world wide who continue to protect us so well throughout the year.

By proudly wearing and displaying blue and red ribbons pinned together or by participating in a memorial or recognition event, we can show our gratitude to firefighters everywhere.

MCA Calling for HINDRAf 5 Release

April 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

it seems like everyone except UMNO have asked for HINDRAF Release. wakakakaka.

only UMNO is the 1 claiming that HINDRAF is a threat to national security. So its no more based on national interest but for personal gain that they are still locked down HINDRAF.

But the real threat to national security is UMNO itself. they are the 1 who say street rally is not our culture, yet they them self organize street rally in penang and selangor. They even air the rally with provoking speech on TV. doesnt that sound stupid ?

Barisan National Lost control of itself when their component parties have different opinion with UMNO. its no more “Saya sokong barisan national sampai mati”.

Barisan National Should reform its REFORMED party again to maintain stability among its members.

PPP ponders its status

April 2nd, 2008 · No Comments

After its recent defeat in GE 2008, and loosing both its parliamentary and state seats, PPP now requesting for 2 senator posts. Wanita PPP chief C. Josephine Anne said the party needed the two posts to have adequate representation for its members.

It is still a doubt whether they will get the requested senetor posts as our PM clearly stated that no seats will be given to those who lost in election. Maybe it doesnt cover the senator post.

She also said many of the issues brought up by the opposition were covered in the PPP’s manifesto. PPP had always been a multiracial party fighting for Bangsa Malaysia.

She also said that PPP will be more vocal this time as its previous works were done in background and not highlighted.

“We plan to step up our community work and get media coverage for it. We will also set up blogs since this is one of the most effective media today.

Madhavan Says : My Dear, if you do things in background, how the rakyat knows you’re doing it ? No point being more vocal if you don’t bring up the important issues faced by rakyat. thats why Pakatan Rakyat won the election.

PPP wants to set up blogs ? blogs is not political tool ler. people use it to express their feelings like what im doing right now. if you really do voice out the issues of rakyat, no need blog also can win.

BTW, isn’t one of YOUR coalition member was the one who said ALL bloggers are lier’s. so now PPP wants to join the lier’s eh ?
